Abstract:	字串(Text string)是一種非常重要的資料型態，它可以代表人名、身份證字號、信用卡號碼、與所有作為識別用途的型別，例如車牌。在網際網路(Internet)上，字串也往往被使用為搜尋引擎的關鍵詞，或帳號密碼之識別。通常，這些以字串為基礎的識別碼數量都非常龐大，以台灣目前約六百萬部運行中的小客車車牌為例，如何迅速決定某車牌是否存在於某族群之中(違規、失竊、欠稅等)，亦稱為存在(membership)問題，多年來已經在文獻上被廣泛探討。而除了判定是否存在之外，近年來，研究焦點轉向在判定存在時，可同時呈現
