Abstract:	一般而言，人們對地方特色的印象是有的、卻又是模糊的；可是對於進行保存的歷史性區域，其地方特色之意象就必須明確的加以定義，有了明確的定義，就能提出具體的行動方案。本文探討台灣現存的老街，在保存議題上所面對的普遍性問題；並回顧馬來西亞的檳城市在形塑所謂地方特色的努力。並就近年來的使用者問卷與實地參訪，嘗試提出保存方案之項目。 This paper sets out to explore the planning issues or proposed actions in conserving Taiwan’s historic streets.
